Letting people go


Question of employment. I for one think that being a permanent (full time) employee with a tenure of service to a company guarantees job security. It's always the responsibility of the company to make sure to have work for their employees -- an employee who has nothing to work on is not at fault. And I think its unjust to terminate an employee just because the company has no work to give unless the company is downsizing to break even, going bankrupt, or the company is just not earning. But as long as it's revenue is higher than expenses, they darn must have a good reason, a really valid one to let people go. It would be really demoralizing to hire and fire the same people at a very short span of time without even knowing their potentials. Again is it done for a valid reason?

Some say "Being in the driver's seat is different from being at the backseat". OK, I may not see what others may see but you don't need to be an astrophysics to see what is practically right and wrong.

The Degree


I'm just wondering, many of our local colleges have Business Administration (BA) courses. These schools are using the BA degree title like a kitchen knife that you can't do without in the kitchen. Ok here's the thing about it, are all colleges with the BA course are really teaching students the "administration" things?. From my point of view, I see many BA grads who doesn't have the administering power, they are not even fit to lead not to mention a low self esteem. Why not use a better title that can fit; Business Staff, Business Support, or even General Business. Honestly with our current educational system I think the "administration" word is somewhat overuse.

Lets keep the "administration" title to a few able people to take and not give the majority false hope. Administration must be to teach students to lead, to administer, or to direct.

Catching up


I'm an IT guy, and believe me when I say IT is a highly competitive field of expertise. But I think developers in the IT field has some sort of superiority complex especially those who belong to the higher salary bracket. I'm talking about those well informed, updated (always), highly technical IT guys who shoot up at a short period of time are the ones more vulnerable to the superiority thing.

Anyway, lets just catch up on things. I think the Philippines need to catch up when it comes to IT use especially how the local business community sees IT integration in their business activities. This is just a general observation and I think also that their are some, and I mean a few businesses who look at IT as a pivotal part in their business operations if not the center of operation. Sad to say this few are confined to big businesses and of course the software development companies. IT is for all and it is most useful and a leveraging factor for small businesses to compete with the big guys in business.

Comes in the IT guys, those technology savvy people who will be doing two things for your business -- 1) make you spend more for development and maintenance (makes you believe that connectivity always rocks) or 2)help you cut down on overheads and make you king of your world. Well to be sure of item (2) and not experience all the pains of going through item(1), get a business experienced (not necessary savvy) IT guy to level your business and IT needs, then get the savvy one to develop.
